Delightful Shropshire must surely be one of England’s hidden gems with its unspoilt countryside, lovely medieval towns, lakes and wooded hillsides. On this lovely holiday we include a heritage train journey, a river cruise and a visit to the award-winning Ironbridge.

Day 1: Depart South Wales and travel to the Mercure Telford Centre Hotel with a visit to Ludlow en-route.

Day 2: Severn Valley Railway & Bridgnorth After breakfast we head to Kidderminster to board the Severn Valley Railway for a scenic journey along the Severn Valley to Bridgnorth. We spend the remainder of the day in Bridgnorth, a pretty 17th century riverport town of 2 halves. The lower half is beside the River Severn and the castled upper town is connected by the steepest funicular railway in the UK.

Day 3: Shrewsbury Shrewsbury is one of England’s finest medieval market towns. Included is a cruise along the picturesque River Severn with live commentary. The rest of the day is free to enjoy Shrewsbury town centre which is packed with timber-framed black and white buildings, narrow streets, alleyways and over 600 listed buildings.

Day 4: Ironbridge Gorge Museums Today’s excursion takes us to the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and the site of the world’s first iron bridge built in the 1700s. Your ticket gives you access to attractions including Blists Hill Victorian town, where costumed staff provide a fascinating insight into how life was lived in Victorian times, and of course, you have the opportunity to cross the bridge itself!

Day 5: After breakfast depart for home.
